DATE OF DEPARTURE
It only takes one click to purchase airfare. As most missionaries will tell you, though, it takes some faith to make that purchase when it is a one-way trip to another country, leaving behind all the comforts and familiarity of home. A few days ago, Janie and I felt the weight of that challenge when we bought one-way tickets that will send us and our son Iain to live in Milan, Italy as a missionary family. July 9 is the day of our departure. We covet your prayers as this date approaches. We are excited, but naturally a little nervous.
I am pleased to announce that, by the grace of God through the generous support of people like you, I am 100% funded for 2018 and have secured about 50% of my support for 2019. We are praying that we can secure 100% of our needed funds for 2019 before the end of this year. If you want to partner with us in this mission to bring the gospel to Italy, please send your donation of any amount to:
Escondido United Reformed Church
1864 N. Broadway
Escondido, CA 92026
Checks should be made out to Escondido United Reformed Church. Please indicate that the donation is for the support of Rev. Brown as a missionary in Italy.
Janie, Iain and I continue to work on learning the Italian language. It is important that we are able to communicate well with people in Italy, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ (Rom 10.17). Our language acquisition will be an ongoing effort for many years, but we have been working diligently even before we leave. Iain attends tutoring every week and has daily homework in Italian. Janie and I try to read novels, watch the news, listen to podcasts and write emails in Italian every day. I've also matriculated through all the courses at the Italian Cultural Center in San Diego, and Janie is taking her last advanced class beginning in April. Still, it is a great challenge to think in a second language, obtaining a level of comfort to pray and converse naturally. We ask for your prayers that the Lord will continue to help us learn this beautiful tongue!
Other prayer requests are:
That the Lord will prepare the hearts of many in Italy, especially in Milan, Perugia, and Turin;
That the Lord will give us courage to bring the gospel and build relationships with people in Italy;
That my family and I can obtain visas from the Italian consulate;
That we can sell our home in San Diego;
That Iain will adjust to a new culture and make good friends;
That the Lord will provide CURC with a faithful pastor;
That the Lord will provide our funding for 2019.
We are very grateful to God for your support and encouragement. Please feel free to reach out to us by email. We would love to hear from you!
